RAIC Labs Supercharges GenLogs: Transforming Freight Intelligence with Automated Data Labeling

Accelerating AI Model Development for Freight Intelligence

RAIC Labs’ proprietary technology is helping fellow startup GenLogs with the no-longer-tiresome process of labeling data. RAIC lays the foundation for the AI model-building that fuels GenLogs’ freight intelligence software.

“Our work with GenLogs is a classic example of how startup companies can use RAIC to jump-start the building of their AI models,” said Mark Snyder, RAIC Labs’ Vice President of Product.

How GenLogs Collects and Uses Freight Data

Joe Sherman, CTO of GenLogs, said the firm uses a network of roadside sensors and cameras to collect data on freight traffic.

The intelligence pulled from that data helps logistics companies monitor shipments and locate missing assets.

Additionally, GenLogs’ insights drive economic activity. Companies use intelligence and data from GenLogs to find and hire appropriate trucking firms based on route activity.

The Role of RAIC Labs in Model Development

To build the AI models that detect trailers and other relevant objects or logos, Sherman said GenLogs relies on RAIC Labs’ technology

“It’s fundamental to what we’re doing,” Sherman said of RAIC Labs’ proprietary software.

RAIC Labs’ software cuts out the tedious process of manually labeling data for model-building. The GenLogs team uses RAIC to rapidly finds items of interest – like trailers – in large sets of imagery. RAIC makes it easy to build a solid, labeled set of training data.

“The time savings are very real,” Sherman said. “This used to be a multi-month process, and now it’s a rapid pipeline.”

Scaling AI Model Training at GenLogs

GenLogs is now in its seventh month of using RAIC Labs software as the starting point for training its models, which are now scanning roughly 4-million images per day.

“It would have taken us years to get to this point,” Sherman said.

Snyder said RAIC Labs’ work with GenLogs provides a detailed example of what’s possible using the former’s technology.

“RAIC can do this on any large set of imagery,” Snyder said. “This isn’t unique to the freight industry.”

“If you need to quickly find things in your data that you can use to build an AI model, we can significantly streamline that process for you,” Snyder added.

A Seamless and Secure Partnership

Sherman said a major benefit to working with the RAIC Labs team has been responsiveness.

"We've hit so few hiccups with RAIC Labs. We don't even feel like we're working with a startup,” he said.

But Sherman said there are other benefits too: like the peace of mind brought about by not having to outsource the labeling process.

“All the data stays within a tight ecosystem,” he said.

Expanding AI's Potential

In the future, GenLogs hopes to branch out and use its technology beyond just business. The company believes its intelligence can help with everything from environmental concerns to public safety.

“People don’t know that most trucks run empty. Can we reduce that? Because that’s good for the World, to be more efficient with our resources,” Sherman said.

“From a safety standpoint, you can use the data we gather to combat serious problems we often hear about on highways: like drug smuggling or human trafficking,” Sherman said. “To us, expanding into that type of work, helping non-profits and organizations doing good, that would be just as impactful as our main business goal of serving the freight industry itself.”
